My PC is running again
It looks that Dell did have the spare parts handy and sent the technical service yesterday.
As I suspected, the failed item was the power supply, so the repair took just a few minutes.
In the meantime, I learned in Ubuntu a couple of things that may be of use for someone else.
1. MB3D runs under Wine. I didn't stumbled into any major problem to use it, except the snail speed provided by the old laptop.
2. J-Wildfire also runs very well under Ubuntu.
Thanks again to those of you that cheered me with the problem! :thanks:
Cheers!

Color picker tool
Some of you may find useful to have this tool which I use to pick colors from any image appearing in my monitor to transfer into my fractals.
You can make a nice collection of a pretty limited palette of 6 colors.
The freeware can be obtained here: http://www.blacksunsoftware.com/colormania.html
And this is how it looks in your monitor: http://mario837.deviantart.com/art/ColorMania-376661029?ga_submit_new=10%253A1370705085

Out on vacation
I will be out of town for the next six weeks, visiting my son and daughters who live in the U.S.A. as a miserable excuse to actually visit my grandchildren. :D
I will not have my laptop and will carry only my iPad so I will not be very active except for answering as many of your comments as possible.
I will miss the daily review of your deviations and I will miss fractaling, but you can't have it all.
See you in June again.
Global Warming +11
Please see updates at the end of the journal.
I just finished reading the book COLLAPSE, How Societies Choose to Fail or Succed by Jared Diamond.
The book presents a detailed and sometimes tedious list of reasons for which some past societies have disappeared. A major reason, or in some cases the only reason, for that collapse is the mismanagement of ecological problems. Either the problem was neglected, or was discovered but not solved appropriately or solved with the wrong response.
We are generally well informed about global warming and probably tend to simplify the problem by taking just this issue. Al Gore's "The Inconvenient Truth"
